 Shoebox is a receipt tracking program with both an online web program and a mobile app that easily integrates with your online account. Both solutions, when working together, provide you with a powerful solution for tracking business expenses. One feature that Shoeboxed has that other expense tracking services we reviewed don't have is a designated email address directly connected to your account. Simply give this email address to clerks, clients or vendors and any invoice, contact or expense information that is emailed to you will automatically be saved in Shoeboxed.

 Like several other expense tracking apps we reviewed, Shoeboxed allows you to use your device camera to snap a quick pic of your receipt and save it to your expense report. However, Shoeboxed takes this feature a step further, using OCR technology to automatically fill in the expense text fields so you don't have to manually enter this in. We tested this feature and found that Shoebox's OCR intelligent scan accurately pulled, filled and saved data from receipts, so we didn't have to change any mistakes. It also worked with business cards, though the ability to save and manage contact information is only available through the online web account and for an additional cost. Shoeboxed can integrate with your financial institution and automatically updates expense information as transactions are posted to your online bank account. This means you will always have an accurate view of your business expenses without having to double check and re-enter information between the two programs. This business expense tracker provides you with tools to track miles when you are traveling for work. Additionally, it uses GPS technology to automatically track when you move, and it automatically enters these miles into the appropriate text fields so you have an accurate report of your business trip. Another feature that is unique to Shoeboxed is its ability to integrate directly with QuickBooks. Other apps create the CSV files that you can share with accounting and payroll services, but Shoeboxed connects directly so you don't have to take additional steps to get information to your accounting program. This business expense manager can still create CSV files if you use another accounting program, such as FreshBooks, or a payroll service, like ADP. We had some difficulty using the mobile app. We installed the application both on an Android and iOS device. While using the Android, we found that the program had difficulties recognizing when we needed to move to the next step or to go back to the previous page. It often took several taps before the app responded. We didn't have as many problems using the iOS device, though there were still moments that the app didn't respond immediately. The information collected with the app transferred to the web account accurately; however, the process was more cumbersome than other expense tracking services on our review. Shoeboxed requires you to take steps to export data to the web portal. Other app with an online account automatically share this information. Receipt photos that we exported to our web account took a couple of hours before they posted and could be accessed online.

 Shoeboxed provides you with some of the more advanced expense and travel tracking tools for your business. The ORC and GPS technologies put this app a step above lower-ranked apps, helping you automatically record expenses and mileage so you don't have to remember to do it. All this information can be exported to an online web account or shared with QuickBooks, making accounting and tax reporting more accurate and easy. The app has some unresponsiveness, especially when using an Android, but overall, this program makes tracking business expenses less of a hassle.
